Billy Badass and Easter Eggs

I was able to snap a better photo of our little Belgian D’Uccle Mille Fleur Bantam rooster over the weekend, too – so here’s a better look at this little guy. We’ve nicknamed him “Billy Badass” because of the way he struts around.

We also discovered that another one of our Welsummer pullets has started to lay – but she doesn’t quite “get” where she should be doing this – her egg was on the ground about two feet away from the nest boxes. Thankfully, I noticed it, although mostly buried in the wood shavings, before I stepped on it! So we are trying to give them hints about laying in the nest boxes – offering visual cues is often recommended, and you can purchase wooden eggs, or even use golf balls, to place in the nest boxes so that they see, “Oh, this is where the eggs go.”

Well, we’re on a budget, and I wanted to try something we have on hand before purchasing anything.

Here’s hoping they aren’t hoping to find jelly beans inside. I suppose I could have done worse; I have to imagine that Cadbury Creme would probably be a nightmare to clean off of feathers.

I don’t know if the Easter eggs will give them the idea, but they sure are cute in the nest boxes.

Thanks! Just snazzing the place up a bit for the feathered friends, ha! 😉

Actually, there were more eggs in the boxes yesterday than we’ve been getting of late. I don’t know if it was coincidence, or if the plastic eggs helped – we’ll see what happens in the days to come. 🙂
