We’re melting…

It’s 88 degrees Fahrenheit here today, and with the humidity factored in, it feels more like 92 degrees. It always reminds me of a line from the old 1950’s 3-D movie “It Came From Outer Space”, as sampled by Siouxsie and the Banshees in their song “92 Degrees.”

Did you know more murders are committed at 92 degrees Fahrenheit that any other temperature? I read an article once. At lower temperatures, people are easy-going, over 92, it’s too hot to move, but just 92, people get IRRITABLE.
Not just people! Animals are not terribly thrilled with this weather, either. But they are all getting along as well as possible. There are lots of water refills being made, and spontaneous showers via the garden hose are being given. If you asked any of my chickens why they crossed the road, their answer would likely include something about escaping the crazy lady with the hose sprayer. But everyone seems as happy as one can be in this weather, which only promises to get worse tomorrow. As you can see, the heat has also affected me, in that I don’t have as much to say as I normally would. Today is a day better conveyed in photos than words.
Our Welsummer Roo asks where his frozen mealworms might be.
My buddy hen eyeballs my fingers to see of they hold a treat
One of our Buff Orp hens is also looking for any snacking opportunities
The ISA Brown hens have a stretch on the lawn
A Mille Fleur hen cools off with a drink of water
It’s a hen party. No, really!
It’s always a delight to see one of the Picard (Silver Duckwing) Bantams out and about, as they spend most of their time inside the coop.
