Fuzzbutt Update

Our five little Denizli chicks are getting dry in the brooder, and are doing happy little chick things: peeping, sleeping, drinking, and figuring out what those crumbles are for – I suspect their tummies will instruct them on that soon enough! I wanted to share some updated photos with you.

It’s really difficult to know what’s in the frame when you are just sticking the camera down into the brooder. Don’t mind the vintage Batman style angle.
I think it senses that it’s supposed to do something with those crumbles, it just hasn’t figured out what that is just yet.
This was our most recent hatchling, number five. It’s still a little damp.

I’m really kind of thinking that the last egg might be a dud, because there is a large yellowish-brown spot on one side of it, and I’m wondering if that means that the chick inside of it died. 🙁 I am hoping not, of course, but trying to be realistic. We’ll give it until Day 25 (Saturday), and if it’s just a late hatcher, then it can join its friends in the brooder!

Hatching has been a great experience, and I can’t wait to have the opportunity to do it again. For the time being, I want to focus on the care of our current babies – I really hope that we get some crowing roosters out of this bunch!
