Sunday’s Fun

Another weekend has flown by, and we are still staring down a to-do list that is glaring back at us intensely. Never let it be said that we are without something to do. I returned inside a bit ago from doing some afternoon feeding, watering, and goat-walking. Over the last several days, our duck egg numbers have been down in the mornings, and I suspected that they were laying in “sneaky nests” out in their enclosure. Correctly deduced! So now, part of the chores is going on an egg hunt a couple of times per day, and wow, are ducks ever skilled at hiding their eggs. I’m not even sure I’ve found them all, but hopefully so, because it is a lot of work to crawl around in the overgrowth searching for those things. It’s a good thing I am so fond of duck eggs!

Next on the agenda is taking out the trash (no small task; for those not already in the know, our driveway is 1/8 of a mile long), making dinner, and then getting some cheese started. I may get really adventurous and try making cheddar today – it will be our first aged cheese if we do. Then, before we know it, the evening milking and chores will be upon us. Weekends are never long enough, are they? Especially those in the autumn here in Michigan, which seems to come and go so quickly. You can’t beat the crispness of the air, some apple cider, and the beautiful color-turning leaves. Those have started in our yard. What about yours?

I hope that you will enjoy perusing some photos I pulled off of the camera. The first few are from late August, but I don’t think I posted those yet. The rest are from the baby goat walk, which were taken about an hour ago. Of special note are the multiple shots of River, who is most decidedly a lap goat. It’s a good thing she’s a Nigerian Dwarf, a diminutive breed, because I don’t think she’ll outgrow this habit as an adult.

Have a great evening, all!
