Help Lott Elevator

We love supporting small, family-owned businesses whenever possible, and so it’s probably no surprise that we sought out a local elevator for our animal feed requirements rather than purchasing from a national chain. We’ve been going to the Lott Elevator in Cohoctah, MI over the past year and half – we really love how helpful and knowledgeable the owner and his staff are, and they produce feeds that our animals simply gobble right up and thrive on.

You don’t get much more local than this – not only is the business locally owned and staffed, but they also work with local farmers – the owner even has his own farm where he grows many of the grains used in the feeds – to procure their grains as close to home as possible. So they’re thinking green by reducing the fossil fuels needed to bring in their local grain blends. They do also have Kent products that they bring in, but the majority of their business is locally produced feeds.

In addition to the feed, they also sell seed, gardening supplies, and they have a great aisle of organic, natural foods for humans, too! They really care about their community.

Their grain dryer – a big machine that they use to process the grains as they come in – is in desperate need of replacement. The expected lifespan on a dryer is about twenty years maximum, and theirs is twenty-two years old, and showing its age. With a new dryer, they could provide even greater services to the local farming community, and ultimately, the entire community, because we farmers produce the foods you eat! So we’re hoping that you will be willing to take two minutes out of your day (we know it’s busy, but this really is quick!) and login to the Chase/Living Social Mission:Small Business website and cast your vote for Lott Elevator.  He could receive a grant for $250,000 to purchase that dryer.

For some unknown reason, there are two entries out there, so please cast your vote with the one that currently has (and will hopefully have more soon) 109 votes. He needs 250 votes to be considered, and the contest ends later this week, on the 30th. Let’s get a surge of votes out there for Lott, so that they can be considered for the grant. You’ll not only do them a favor by voting – you will be helping us out too. We really appreciate it, and thank you for your support!
