Heidi’s Buckling

The rains have been falling with far more regularity than this time last year, and everything is greening up very nicely. We look forward to putting in the additional pasture space to take advantage of the “salad bar” available to our herd right here on our property.

We have many babies here on the farm this season: goat kids and juvenile turkey poults are currently keeping us busy! We’ve built a new house for our goat kids that they will be moving into as soon as we get their fenced yard completed. This will allow us to separate those kids who are too big to be nursing off of mom (and mom agrees on this matter – trying to push her kid(s) away when they try to nurse) and help them learn a little more independence. But not to worry, because it’s right next door to the big barn, so they won’t be too far! A few weeks of separation should do the trick, and then they can rejoin the larger herd. Also, the new house is a vibrant purple, with a green roof (Joker inspired color scheme), so they’ll be living in style!

Most of our goat kids were born earlier in the year, but our herd queen Heidi had a late birth this year, just last week, and gave us a beautiful little buckling. He’ll be remaining with mom for a few more weeks before joining the other kids in the kid housing. He’s sweet as can be and his momma is one of our best milkers – she is a dream to milk, it practically falls out of her – so we will keep him here as a breeding buck, and hopefully he produces some does that milk as well as his momma! He’s been quite the charmer so far, with those lop-ears, and his proclivity for cuddling with his humans. We love the white with black undercoat – he’s admittedly not our only buck with that color scheme, but we are partial to it, after all.

We still have some Nigerian Dwarf bucklings available, some with blue eyes! If you are looking to breed Nigerians or to create “mini-breeds” with your standard does, we are offering these boys at very affordable pricing: $50 each. Please let us know if you are interested!
