Small Business Perks

Back in November, I was really pushing for patronizing small businesses on Thanskgiving weekend – I grew up in a small business, and of course, run one of my own now, so it’s a pretty near-and-dear issue for me. It’s pretty cool that some pretty big companies, like American Express, are also pushing for folks to shop small – they have an annual promotion for just that, in fact! So, back in November, Klout (a social influence monitoring company) partnered with Amex and encouraged users on Twitter to use the hashtag #SBSPerks and talk about the benefits of shopping small. I did, and I was randomly chosen by the Small Business Saturday folks as a daily winner – I won a $150 gift certificate to Gourmet Gift Baskets, in fact! I was thrilled!

I recently had the opportunity to redeem the certificate. You see, it was my Daddy-O’s 60th birthday yesterday, and so he received a lovely basket containing red wine, summer sausage, smoked cheese, and a couple of different kinds of crackers. We also ordered a basket for ourselves – a “Valentines Day” themed basket, containing all kinds of yummy chocolates and other sweets. Yum! The baskets were beautifully presented and shipping went off without a hitch – I’d recommend Gourmet Gift Baskets anytime.

Speaking of small businesses, a friend of our farm has started her own – and I’d like to mention it. I know over the years I’ve had the opportunity to do some talk therapy that has really helped me through some of my mental growth, and one of the things that has been really valuable to me in that regard is having a therapist who is accepting of my sometimes non-mainstream ways of thinking. For anyone seeking a holistic approach, April’s practice, The Conscious Connection Center, may be just what you are looking for – you can check out her flyer here! The Conscious Connection Center Flyer Note -this is a PDF file, so depending on how you have opted to have your web browser handle those – it will either open in a web browser window or download the file to your computer. 🙂

Well, speaking of small business – I’ve got to get back to running this one, which right now, means heading out for animal checks, afternoon feedings, and egg collecting. Hope everyone is having a great day!
