Well, it’s about time I updated with some recent goat phoÂtos, isn’t it? As always, click on the phoÂtos to enlarge and scroll through the album. And yes, you are going to notice some new goats in the herd!
We are lookÂing forÂward to some births startÂing within the next few weeks — not only will this mean adorable goat babies bouncÂing around the barn, it will also bring us some more milk — which is much needed, as we have had to start the lacÂtaÂtion dry-offs for some of our pregÂnant girls who were proÂvidÂing a lot of our milk. Goats need the last two months of their five month gesÂtaÂtion off from milkÂing in order to dedÂiÂcate all of their resources to nourÂishÂing the develÂopÂing kids they are carÂryÂing. We stagÂgered out our girls pregÂnanÂcies this year as much as we could in order to keep a conÂtinÂuÂous milk supÂply going, but their proÂducÂtion is still quite down from where we were even a month ago! So we look forÂward to all of the girls refreshÂing over the next few months. I’m really anticÂiÂpatÂing postÂing some baby phoÂtos up soon.
If you are local to the area, and might be interÂested, or know someÂone who is — we have a couÂple of items for sale on Craigslist. Please pass these listÂings on accordÂingly — as always, funds from these sales supÂport the farm!

Finally had a chance to take some #goat phoÂtos today with our herd. Check out my latÂest blog post: http://t.co/dS9GYSTd #smallfarm
Nice lookÂing herd? SaaÂnens, largely?
Thanks! PriÂmarÂily LaManÂchas, but we do have one grade SaaÂnen in there. We also have some NigerÂian Dwarves and Alpines — two pureÂbreds, some grade.
We will be sellÂing the 2 year old pureÂbred chamoiÂsee Alpine later this spring, actuÂally. When we started out, we just kind of went with difÂferÂent breeds, but movÂing forÂward, our main focus will be LaManÂcha with a few NigeÂriÂans. We’ll probÂaÂbly keep all of the other grade Alpines and Veronica’s daughÂter Inara, though. VeronÂica just needs to be in a herd with mostly other pureÂbred Alpines who can betÂter deal with her bulÂlyÂing. She’s not the herd queen, and will back down as soon as she knows she’s being watched, but she likes to pick fights! We do have a new LaManÂcha (WinÂter) who is standÂing up to her and going on the offenÂsive, though, so we’ll see what happens!
