Kitteh Update

Wow, the Twitterverse isn’t kidding when they call this storm system Windocalypse. I’ve had the goats out for two walks so far today, and the one about an hour ago was blustery to the point where I was concerned with the kitten getting blown away. He apparently was, too, as he sort of battened down, flattening himself to the ground to hold on. Then, he ran over and started climbing my pantleg (one of his favorite activities, if frequency is an indicator).

He wasn’t content with just being held and feeling safe and snug, though. Apparently these gusts made him realize he’d missed his calling in life, as a avian companion to privateers.

So, he climbed a little further and settled into his perch. Silly little cat.

Of course, it wasn’t long before he realized that was the wrong career choice, too, and he opted to walk the plank instead – insisting on climbing down my outstretched arm, and diving back onto the lawn.

He’s a restless little guy sometimes. But hey, that’s Kitteh Life.

His next option was to try and blend in with the goats. We think he might be confused that he is a goat. He loves being around them, and when I go out to the barn, he is frequently in the pen with them. They don’t seem to mind him, either.

But I think his favorite spot today is going to be his nice cozy little bed. It’s a repurposed plastic tote lined with polar fleece, and it also has a 5W pet heating pad in it, for this winter when things get really frigid. Our former cat Artemis (the runaway) used it all last winter, and did quite well.

Mew.

He’s also attempting to use the litter pan I put in the barn for him, although, with his long hair, he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of avoiding klingons. I performed the yuck-chore of combing those out this morning. He protested, but I hope he appreciates it. I know I appreciate a non-turd-encrusted kitten when I’m holding him. I’ve asked our Awesome Vet to have a look at him the next time she’s here for the goats. I’m hoping he doesn’t have one of the many potentially fatal feline diseases, because he’s a really friendly, sweet cat, who gets along with our other animals, and I’d like to keep him around.

Also, our son told us in the car on Sunday, as we took him back to his city home, “I really love that little kitten.”

If for no other reason than that, I hope this kitty is a survivor.
