George and the kitten that showed up in our barn

It would appear that we have a barn cat….

George and the kitten that showed up in our barn

He (we think it’s a boy) showed up in the barn sometime today while we were at a family gathering. Quite an affectionate little fellow. We’re hoping that having him from such a young age and growing up around the chickens will allow us to avoid any issues with him attacking them (if he does, they’ll kick his arse!)

He’s got a dirty face, and a little goop in his eyes, so I tried cleaning that up a bit. We had some cat food on hand from Artemis (who ran away earlier this year and then took out some of our chickens) and some dishes, so I set him up with those.

He is unphased by the goats, and in fact, I pondered whether or not he’s going to attempt to cuddle up with them tonight. Even if he doesn’t, there’s plenty of straw in the barn, and clearly, he’s found some warm places to sleep already. It’s likely why he sought out our barn. Of course, he could have been born in there, for that matter. I’m wondering if there are other kittens who just haven’t shown up yet. Or the mother cat. Personally, I’m hoping it’s just him.

So, we have a mouser, I guess!

Of course, he’s an affectionate little bugger, so he might just try to have tea and cakes with any rodents he encounters.

We’ll see if he hangs around – if so, we’ll have our Awesome Vet give him a once-over the next time she’s here to see if he needs anything.

What a cute kitten! You are right in thinking he is a boy – golden kitties usually are (they are called “ginger” colored, btw). His mother is a tri-colored cat – either a torty or a calico. Ginger boys are usually wonderful cats – very affectionate and cuddly. I have one, and I can guarantee that if you bring him in the house, he’ll keep you warm at night!

He is a darling little guy! I had another ginger kitten show up earlier this year who some friends adopted – and shockingly, it ended up being a girl! First time I’ve ever heard of that. Unfortunately, she had a congenital disease and passed on at about six months of age. ๐Ÿ™ I’m really hoping this little guy is OK.

I wish we could bring him inside – both of us are really allergic, though. We take antihistamine tablets and spend time with him out in the barn, though, and are trying to make it really cozy for him out there. I discovered him snuggling with the goats yesterday, it was adorable! Plus we won’t have to worry about mice in the barn. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you so much for checking out my blog, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! ๐Ÿ™‚
