MDGS Annual Goat Day 2011

It’s been a busy week around here, and this weekend promises to remain full of activity until Sunday. Tomorrow, we’ll be attending the Michigan Dairy Goat Society Annual Goat Day at Michigan State University, checking out some seminars on making goat cheese and goat health issues, as well as voting in the members who will serve on the MDGS board. This year is an especially important one for these positions, because the MDGS, and especially the board members, are responsible for doing the work on this year’s National Convention of the American Dairy Goat Association.

Putting on a convention is a great deal of work; I’ve been part of the planning and volunteer committees for other types of conventions in the past myself, so I know from experience! I also know from current events, because George and I have volunteered for this convention, not only for the pre-convention planning, but also during-the-convention tech support, and we will be speaking at it as well. There are already numerous hours invested into the work we’ve done for it. We are anxious to meet those who are running for positions of leadership to see what they have or will contribute toward the convention effort, because it’s right around the corner in October, which might seem a long ways away, but considering that many people (like us) have goats to kid, gardens to plant and maintain, and the general swiftness with which summer passes here in Michigan, the clock is ticking! There are lots of things to be done and frankly, it feels a little overwhelming at the moment, but we are determined to contribute our efforts into making it a fantastic convention.

Do you belong to an ADGA-affiliated goat association in your state? Have you ever helped on one of the past ADGA conventions? What kinds of topics would you like to see covered at a dairy goat convention? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

We hope you enjoy this blog and the antics of our farm. Please check out our fan page on Facebook and “like” it for special updates there, and if you use Twitter, by all means, please add us so we can tweet with you!
